New York, February 19 (KMS): Prominent rights watchdog, Human Rights Watch has said that the authorities in India have adopted laws and policies that systematically discriminate against Muslims and stigmatize critics of the government.

The HRW in a report released today said the prejudices embedded in the government of the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have infiltrated independent institutions, such as the police and the courts, empowering nationalist groups to threaten, harass, and attack religious minorities with impunity. »

Exchange of views with Ahmed ShaheedGeneva, February 19 (KMS): Two UN human rights experts have expressed concern that the new domicile rules introduced in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir following Narendra Modi-led Indian government’s unilateral decision to scrap the special status of Kashmir may lead to a demographic change in the territory.

The concerns were expressed by Dr Fernand de Varennes, Special Rapporteur on minority issues, and Ahmed Shaheed, Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, in a joint press release published on the website of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. »

Srinagar, February 19 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed grave concern over the ongoing massacre of innocent Kashmiri youth at the hands of Indian troops in the territory.

The APHC General Secretary, Molvi Bashir Ahmad in a statement issued in Srinagar deplored that that the Kashmiri people were brutally killed for demanding their birthright to self-determination but the whole world had become a silent spectator. »

Srinagar, February 19 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement have said that the recent visit of the foreign envoys shows that the Indian government tried to cover up the real situation in the territory.

The JKML Acting Chairman, Abdul Ahad Parra, in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the people of the territory on the occasion observed a complete strike and sent a clear message to the world that the ground realities could not be changed by India’s cheap tactics. He said on the visit of the foreign delegation to IIOJK, the people responded to the Indian drama with an unprecedented strike which depicted that situation in the territory is grim.

The JKML Acting Chairman said, at present, the oppressed people of IIOJK are going through the worst period in the history where political organizations and people are not allowed to protest peacefully. The visit of the delegation would have been useful had it freely met the people in IIOJK. »

Srinagar, February 19 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, three Indian policemen were killed and several others were injured in two separate attacks in Srinagar and Budgam districts.

Two Indian policemen were killed after unidentified gunmen fired upon them in Baghat area of Srinagar.

A Special Police Officer (SPO) of Indian police was killed and another was injured in an attack in Beerwah area of Badgam district. »

Srinagar, February 19 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior Hurriyat leader, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, has paid glowing tributes to the three youth martyred by Indian troops during a cordon and search operation at Badigam in Shopian district, today.

Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori in a statement issued in Srinagar said that due to India’s stubbornness, the Kashmir dispute remained unresolved and innocent Kashmiri youth were being killed on daily basis. He said that the Indian rulers were responsible for the prevailing bloodshed in IIOJK as they wanted to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle through guns instead of resolving the dispute in the light of the United Nations resolutions. »

Srinagar, February 19 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian soldier died due to cardiac arrest in Kupwara district.

The Indian soldier, Havildar Data Ram (44), suffered major heart attack and died on the spot near the Line of Control in the district.

Meanwhile, two Indian policemen were critically injured in an attack in Baghat area of Srinagar. »

Srinagar, February 19 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, India’s notorious probe body, National Investigation Agency (NIA), has arrested a Kashmiri youth in Jammu.

The NIA arrested the youth identified as Taraq Hussain Giri of Kishtwar and labeled him as an over-ground worker of mujahideen.

He was produced before a special NIA court in Jammu and taken on police remand for five days. »
