Hurriyat leaders continue to pay tributes to Sehrai in IIOJK » Kashmir Media Service

Srinagar, May 07 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations continued to pay tributes to martyred senior APHC leader and the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai.

The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League (JKPFL) in a meeting held in Srinagar with its General Secretary, Muhammad Ramzan Khan in chair, praised Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai for his life-long struggle for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and freedom of Kashmir. The participants of the meeting urged the United Nations to take notice of the IIOJK situation and investigate the custodial killing of the great freedom fighting leader in a Jammu jail.

Chairman of Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir, Khadim Hussain, addressing a special meeting of the party’s central leaders in Srinagar convened in connection with the martyrdom of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, paid homage to the martyred leader. He said that Ashraf Sehrai strived for the sacred cause of freedom throughout his life. The TWI chairman said that Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai was a fearless, upright and honest leader who even sacrificed his son for the Kashmiris’ freedom movement. He said that Ashraf Sehrai had spent a precious and long period of his life in Indian prisons where he faced extreme hardships but stood firm for his lofty goals.

Khadim Hussain said that Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai was among the pioneers of the Kashmiris’ freedom movement. He pointed out that the martyred leader was also a strong supporter of the Islamic revolution of Iran and admirer of its great leader Imam Khomeini, which he expressed several times during his addresses on various occasions. The TWI Chairman maintained that the martyrdom of Ashraf Sehrai was a great loss for the people of IIOJK. Expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, he said that Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami shared their grief in the same manner. He prayed for the high ranks of the martyred leader and patience for the bereaved family.

Senior Hurriyat leader, Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori, in a statement described Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai as a shining chapter of the ongoing Kashmir freedom movement. He said Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai was a fearless leader who had dedicated his entire life to the freedom movement, endured the hardships of imprisonment and the oppression of India. Khan Sopori also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

Hurriyat leader, Javaid Ahmad Mir, in a statement issued in Srinagar, paying tributes to Ashraf Sehrai, said that it was the responsibility of world human rights groups to investigate the custodial death of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai. He said that Ashraf Sehrai was active from last fifty years and fighting for the resolution of the long-pending Kashmir dispute. He was one of the peaceful leaders and always fighting for peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute, he said. He said hundreds of families are worried about their relatives, languishing in Indian jails due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chairman of International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, in a statement issued in Srinagar paid homage to Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai. He said that Ashraf Sehrai, despite being ill and aged was arrested last year under draconian Public Safety Act and during his imprisonment no treatment was provided to him. “This is a deliberate custodial murder of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman Seerat Committee Kishtwar, Maulana Abdul Qayoom Mattoo, and Vice Chairman, Khawaja Naeem-ul-Hassan in a joint statement paying homage to Ashraf Sehrai said his martyrdom has created a void in religious and political spheres. They said that Sehrai was one of the towering leaders of IIOJK who always fought for the freedom of the people of Jammu and Kashmir from the Indian subjugation and had to spend most part of his life in Indian jails for championing this cause. They prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace. KMS—15M
