Srinagar, May 20 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has strongly condemned the abrupt hike in cordon and search operations by the Indian occupation forces in a most critical situation when people remain confined to their homes because of COVID-19 pandemic.

APHC’s incharge of Press and Information Division, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed, in a press release issued in Srinagar termed it a deliberate attempt to spread coronavirus among the people of Kashmir. He added that during the cordon and search operations people are forced to assemble in large numbers without social distancing and stand upright for hours together or stick glued to the ground without any movement.

He castigated the Indian fascist regime for its inhuman attitude towards the subjugated people of IIOJK. He said that keeping in view the present infernal situation imposed by the presence of one million forces’ personnel and grave threat to the human life on the globe posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the Indian fascist regime is hell bent to endanger the lives of the people of Kashmir, in general, and the incarcerated pro-freedom people languishing in different jails, in particular.

Hakeem Abdul Rasheed paid rich tribute to the unwavering stance and steadfastness of the illegally detained resistance leaders, activists and the brave people of Kashmir. He said, the Indian fascist regime is suffering from the sense of terrible moral defeat at the hands of jailed leadership, including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq (house arrest), Masarrat Aalam Butt, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Advocate Zahid Ali, Dr Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ameer Hamza, Muhammad Yousuf Mir, Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Farooq Towheedi, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Bashir Ahmad Butt, Raja Merajudin Kalwal and Shahid-ul-Islam, who stood as a gigantic mountain against the Indian military aggression.

The APHC leader urged the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres, and the world community to take serious note of the India’s ruthless and inhuman behaviour towards the Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in different jails of India and save their lives from the clutches of the coronavirus pandemic.

He also demanded an early resolution of the Kashmir and Palestine disputes and appealed the freedom-loving people of Kashmir to make the programme announced by the Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, including shutdown and a march towards Mazar-e-Shuhada at Eidgah in Srinagar tomorrow, 21st May, a grand success to defeat the Indian hegemony and military aggression.

Srinagar, May 18 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference while paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Srinagar has condemned the Indian occupational forces for killing two young boys in custody.

APHC Secretary Public Relations, Bashir Ahmad Andrabi in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “It has become customary for the occupation forces whenever they get furious they resort to brisk firing on common masses as if they enjoy hunting.”

With a strong shield in hand, Armed Forces Special Powers Act and other infamous draconian laws, all the bloody operations are carried out with impunity in the broad day light, the statement said.

The APHC leader while denouncing the arrest spree of the youth and the freedom loving leaders and activists including Moulana Barkati, members of Jamat-e-Islami and the two sons of Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai; Raashid Sehrai and Mujahid Sehrai, reiterated the strong pledge of the people of Kashmir to lead the ongoing resistance moment to its logical conclusion. He said that such barbaric actions cannot deter us from our chosen path of freedom.

The APHC leader reiterated the appeal for a complete shutdown on Friday for commemorating the anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq, martyrs of Hawal and other martyrs and against the widespread killings and arrests at the hands of Indian occupation forces in the territory. He urged the United Nations Secretary General and other International human rights groups to take serious action against the use of brute force and gross violations of human rights by the Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

Bashir Andrabi also urged the world community to stop Israeli aggression in Palestine and help resolve both the issues in the larger interests of global peace and prosperity.

Meanwhile, Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid in a statement issued in Srinagar also paid tributes to Molvi Muhammad Farooq and other martyrs. Anjuman said that Quran Khwani and Husn-e-Qir’aat functions would be held to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-e-Millat Molvi Farooq.

Islamabad, May 17 (KMS): The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani has strongly condemned stepped up India’s military and police terrorism in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of Israeli bombardment and air raids on Palestinians in West Bank and Gaza.

He said that late Ashraf Sahrai’s two sons Mujahid Ashraf and Rashid Ashraf, had been arrested and put behind bars falsely accusing them of violence in the city, along with many more youth.

Meanwhile, he said, a local religious preacher , SirJan Barkaty who had spoken against the Israeli air raids on the Palestinians during a protest rally was also arrested under the notorious JK Public Safety Act and dozens of youth were rounded up and charged with anti-Israel and anti-India slogans.

Barkaty had been released a few months back from detention. In continuation of India’s ruthless killing campaign the police authorities have encounters in South Kashmir.

Islamabad, April 08 (KMS): The Indian government’s move to police dissident voices through new digital media rules was flayed widely with the mainstream and digital media platforms and experts believing that it would have “chilling” effect on journalism.

Scared of mounting pressure of farmers protests and undeterred resolve of Kashmir people for their right to self-determination besides other anti-government movements, the Narendra Modi regime introduced The Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

Under the new set of rules, digital publications would be subject to oversight by the government-run committees, with the power to block publication of stories, remove stories, or even shut down entire websites.

The analysts believe that the grueling new social media rules could be a nightmare for technology giants.

The new legislation requires internet platforms like Facebook and Twitter quickly take down content that the Indian government consider “unlawful” which could have chilling effect on its citizen’s right to free speech.

Indian new law edges closer to the digital censorship of autocratic nation and could endanger the foundation to free expression online.

The social media giants had been resistance Indian government’s orders to muzzle accounts that have been critical of the country’s new agriculture reforms protests by farmers. The companies called it draconian legislation that creates legal risks for companies.

As the Hindu nationalist BJP government called the new rules a “soft-touch oversight mechanism”, the Indian daily The Hindu termed it “a wolf in watchdog’s clothing.”

“The regulatory mechanism could become an operational nightmare. Worse, the casualties could be creativity and freedom of expression. The government would like to see itself as a watchdog of digital content in the larger public interest, but it comes across as a predator,” the daily said.

“The new rules take democracy and free speech in a very alarming direction, all under the guise of promoting online safety and making India more secure,” Riana Pfefferkorn, a research scholar at the Centre for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School said, according to The Guardian.

The Editors Guild of India said the rules “fundamentally alter how publishers of news operate over the internet and have the potential to seriously undermine media freedom in India”.

Many see the rules as a continuation of Modi’s government authoritarian crackdown on dissent. Freedom of the press and freedom of expression has been heavily curtailed since Modi’s BJP came to power, with mainstream media largely within the government’s grasp, but it is online news platforms who have become one of the last bastions of independent journalism.

This year, for the third year in a row, India topped the global list for most internet shutdowns, according to digital rights group Access Now. Of the 155 internet shutdowns that happened around the world in 2020, 109 of them were in India.

The Indian government had also attempted to control the social media platforms like Twitter which were used as major information tool particularly during the farmers’ protests.

The Guardian also reported the internet company Mozilla saying the “ripple effects of these provisions will have a devastating impact on freedom of expression, privacy and security”.

Indian digital news platforms The Wire.in and The News Minute and others challenged the IT rules in Delhi high court, arguing they are “palpably illegal”.

Siddharth Varadarajan, Editor of TheWire, described the rules as an “oppressive architecture.” “We have argued that this runs the danger of adversely affecting fundamental rights,” said Dhanya Rajendran, editor of the News Minute.

A number of experts have said the new rules are anti-democratic and unconstitutional. Noted political scientist Christophe Jaffrelot considers the rules to be an extension of executive control over digital entities, according to Global Voices, an international volunteer community of writers and human rights activists.

An official spokesman of the opposition party Indian National Congress condemned the new guidelines stating that they have been brought out without legislative discussions.

The new digital media rules come after the bashing of Modi government’s Hindu nationalist policies which had fanned anti-Muslim sentiments across the country.

Recently, a 14 years old Muslim Boy Asim Habib, was beaten up and mercilessly thrashed in India for drinking water from Hindu Temple. Took place in Ghaziabad district, the incident gained greater public attention mainly through social media.

The victim’s father – a daily wage earner and scrap seller – stated that his son stopped to drink water from a tap located inside the temple as he was thirsty. I don’t think there is any religion in the world that can refuse water to thirsty person”.

Srinagar, March 18 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami (TWI) has condemned the India’s recent worst state terrorism in Shopian district.

The TWI in a meeting held in Srinagar with its chairman, Khadim Hussain in chair said that India had crossed all the limits of cruelties in the territory. It added that the use of brute force on innocent Kashmiris by Indian troops was part of the Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian regime.

The participants of the meeting deplored that the troops were burning the residential houses of the Kashmiris by using highly inflammable chemicals, which was condemnable.

They said, now the time has come that the United Nations and the world community should play role in stopping Indian atrocities in the occupied territory and resolve the Kashmir dispute according to the United Nations resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people so that peace and stability can be established in the region.

The meeting also rejected the recent statement of the Indian Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh that Kashmir has been fully integrated in India, adding that Kashmir had never remained part of India.

The participants of the meeting said that India had forcibly occupied the territory and the people of Kashmir had been rendering unprecedented sacrifices to liberate it from India.

They also demanded of the United Nations to constitute a special tribunal to investigate the war crimes of Indian forces in IIOJK.

Besides Khalid Hussain, Chief Organizer, Ali Mohammad, General Secretary, Fayyaz Ahmed, Shabbir Hussain Dar, Shaheen Abbas, Iqbal Hussain and Muhammad Maqbool Magami participated in the meeting.

Srinagar, March 11 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has strongly condemned the random and illegal arrest of dozens of youth in Srinagar and slapping of black law, Public Safety Act (PSA), on many of them.

Following a protest demonstration outside historic Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of Srinagar on last Friday against the continued illegal house arrest of Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Indian police have arrested over two dozen youth during house raids in Srinagar. At least fifteen of them have been booked under draconian PSA. The Mirwaiz is under continued house arrest since 04 August 2019, a day before Narendra Modi-led Indian fascist government repealed the special status of IIOJK and placed it under military siege.

The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar condemned the random and illegal arrests under the PSA. While taking a dig at the so-called claim of India of being the largest democracy of the world, he said the people of IIOJK have never experienced the Indian democracy while demanding their right to self-determination which has been accepted as a birth right of every individual throughout the world.

The spokesman castigated the Indian government for using brutal and repressive tactics to suppress the freedom sentiment of the Kashmiri people, particularly the youth, and maintained that the use of such brutal measures would not yield anything for India.

The APHC spokesman paid glowing tributes to the Kashmiri youth recently martyred by Indian troops during the last one week. He said that these martyrs sacrificed their precious lives for a sacred mission of freedom from the Indian subjugation. The people of Kashmir have taken the pledge to continue the freedom movement, which has been nourished by the hot blood of the martyrs, till it reaches its logical conclusion, he added.

The spokesman urged the United Nations Secretary General and the civilized world to take serious note of the atrocities and human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian forces’ personnel in IIOJK and help in early resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Srinagar, March 05 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) has expressed serious resentment over the continued house arrest of its Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, for the last 20 months.

The MMU members including leading religious scholars, ulema, mashaaikh and aima on Friday in their Friday sermons said, the undue restrictions on the peaceful activities of the Valley’s topmost religious leader and preventing him from performing his religious duties were unacceptable.

The MMU members in their respective mosques, shrines and imambargahs condemned the autocratic approach of the authorities for not allowing the Mirwaiz to address the faithful at the historic Jamia Masjid after 83 Fridays despite announcing on Thursday, as per media reports, that he is no more under house arrest. They included Anjuman Shari-e-Shian President, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi; Darul Uloom Raheemiyah, Bandipora, Nazim-e-Aala Maulana Rehmatullah Qasmi; Jamiat Ahle Hadeeth Jammu & Kashmir’s Mufti Yaqoob Baba Al-Madni; Ithihad-ul-Muslimeen Chairman Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari; Imam and Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Srinagar Maulana Ahmad Sayed Naqshbandi; Jamia Masjid Bijbehara Khiram Sarhama imam and Khateeb Mufti Zia-ul-Haq Naazmi; Anjuman Himayat-ul-Islam President and imam and Khateeb of Mirza Akmal-ud-Din Badakhshi Bayhaqi chief Khursheed Ahmad Qanungo; Anjuman Mazhar-ul-Haq Beerwah President and imam and Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Beerwah Moulana Lateef Ahmad Bukhari; Anjuman Ulema-e-Ahnaf chief Molvi Akhzar Hussain; Jamiat Bazm-e-Ahle Hadeeth Trust’s Peer Rehmatullah; imam and Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Handwara Mufti Nazim-ul-Haq Nadvi; Anjuman Ulema Wa Aima Masajid Jammu and Kashmir Ameer Molvi Abdullah Ashrafi; imam and Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Pattan Mufti Ahmad Saeed Bukhari; Karwaan-e-Khattam-e-Nabuwwat chief Mufti Mudasir; and the imams and Khateebs across the Valley.

They said in their sermons that not allowing the Mirwaiz to visit Jamia Masjid and deploying additional number of police personnel outside his residence and blocking roads leading to his house by placing armoured vehicles, barricades and concertina wires, was sheer interference in the religious affairs which are unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the MMU spokesman, while slamming the authoritarian policies of the authorities said that the people from across the Valley had come to Jamia Masjid to listen to the sermon of their beloved leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. However, they were severely disappointed as well as angered after the Mirwaiz was not allowed by the authorities to even move outside his residence, which led to a massive peaceful protest wherein people carried banners slamming the authorities.

The spokesperson said, such repressive measures by the authorities were not only unacceptable but also deeply hurt the sentiment of the masses.
