Hindu extremists torture religious scholar, beat up pesh imam in Maharashtra


Mumbai: In the Nandurbar area of the Indian state of Maharashtra, Hindu extremists tortured a religious scholar and beat up an imam of a mosque for being a Muslim.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Muslims have been deliberately targeted since the recent parliamentary elections.

According to reports, Mufti Shahrukh, a religious scholar, was targeted in Nandurbar. A few hours before this, an incident of beating happened with an imam named Hafiz Zubair in Nandurbar. Apart from this, in the last four days, there have been three other incidents of violence and harassment of Muslims in the same city, which are condemnable.

According to a report, after the Isha prayer last evening, 26-year-old Mufti Shahrukh and his companion, 25-year-old Muzamil, were returning home at 10pm when 8 to 10 Hindu extremists, who had covered their faces with clothes, stopped them and tortured them with hands and sticks and escaped.

Mufti Shah Rukh has filed a complaint in the police station, but the police have not registered any FIR. Another similar incident happened with Imam Hafiz Zubair in front of Jalal Masjid in Mangalbazar Shah area when a man beat him for no reason. The police have registered an FIR against the accused.

Five such incidents have taken place in Nandurbar town at different places in the last three to four days. Two Muslim youth were beaten up in two incidents in De Mart and Sanjay Town areas of the city.

Another similar incident took place in Mohalla Ghar where a Muslim youth was subjected to violence by blocking the road.

Former Maharashtra Minister and Congress leader Mohammad Arif Naseem Khan condemned these incidents and demanded immediate and strict action from the authorities.

Talking to journalists, Arif Naseem Khan said that after the parliamentary elections such incidents against Muslims are happening across the country which are sad and alarming.
