RSS members’ involvement confirmed in 2008 murder of Muslim man in Kerala
Trivandrum: A sessions court in Kasaragod, Kerala, has convicted four men linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to life imprisonment for their involvement in the 2008 murder of Mohammad Kunhi, a 56-year-old Muslim and president of Bilal Mosque.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the murder, which occurred on April 18, 2008, was a part of a series of violent incidents in the region. On that day, Kunhi was ambushed by the four Hindutva men when he was on his way to prayers on Gudde Temple Road. While two of the men restrained him, the other two fatally stabbed him in front of his son, Shihab, who witnessed the attack. The murder was one of four violent incidents over a span of five days that year.
Kasaragod Additional Sessions Court – II Judge Priya K handed down the life sentences to Santhosh Naik (37), K. Sivaprasad (41), Ajithkumar K. (36), and K.G. Kishorkumar (40). This conviction marks the first successful prosecution in a communal murder case in Kasaragod in over fifteen years, according to Special Public Prosecutor Adv CK Sreedharan.
The verdict highlights the persistent challenges and tensions related to anti-Muslim violence in India, emphasizing the legal and social complexities surrounding such cases.
