JIH condemns surge in violence against Muslims, blasphemous remarks in India

New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), a leading Muslim organization in India, has condemned the recent wave of targeted violence against Muslims and their places of worship, as well as sacrilegious remarks made by certain Hindutva elements against Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing the monthly press meeting at the organisation’s headquarters in New Delhi, JIH chief Syed Sadatullah Husaini highlighted a disturbing trend of attacks on mosques, dargahs, and historical sites, including the demolition of a 500-year-old cemetery in Gujarat. He asserted that these demolitions were conducted illegally and without proper notice. In Bihar, extremists defaced a mosque in Kanchanpur, issuing threats and calls for its destruction.

Addressing the rise of hate speech and attacks on religious sites, particularly in Tripura and Gujarat, Husaini expressed deep concern over the authorities’ silence and the blatant disregard for the law, noting that some demolitions defied Supreme Court orders. He condemned blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, viewing them as symptomatic of the country’s declining moral standards.

Husaini also called for the immediate restoration of occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, arguing that the peaceful conduct of recent elections eliminates any justification for ongoing central control. He stressed that this undermines the federal and democratic spirit of the Constitution.

Furthermore, Husaini criticized the proposed “One Nation, One Election” policy, warning that it threatens the federal structure of the Constitution. On the escalating conflict in the Middle East, he expressed grave concern over the potential for war between Israel and Iran, saying a war in the region would be disastrous for global peace. Husaini urged the UN and international community to intervene to stop Israeli aggression, enforce a ceasefire and hold Tel Aviv accountable for its actions.
