Concerns rise over Amit Shah’s alleged role in directing attacks on Sikh activists abroad

Islamabad: Recent statements from Canadian officials have sparked international outrage regarding Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged orchestration of a violent campaign against Sikh activists living abroad.

A report by Kashmir Media Service noted that a Canadian minister’s identification of Amit Shah as the mastermind behind this targeted initiative in Canada highlights the Modi regime’s disturbing tactics against dissidents. Canada’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, David Morrison, informed members of the national security committee that Amit Shah, seen as one of India’s highest-ranking officials and a close ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is viewed as the architect of the campaign against Khalistani Sikhs in Canada, which has reportedly included the assassination of an activist. Morrison confirmed Amit Shah’s involvement to The Washington Post, which had previously reported on the allegations.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has previously stated that Canada possesses credible evidence linking Indian government agents to the murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023. This assassination has led to a significant diplomatic rift between the two countries, prompting Canada to expel Indian diplomats associated with the campaign targeting Sikhs. India retaliated by expelling Canadian officials.

Nathalie Drouin, Trudeau’s national security adviser, had told the security committee that Canada had evidence the Indian government had been gathering information on Indian nationals and Canadian citizens in Canada through diplomatic channels and proxies.

These developments, the KMS report said, underscore a growing perception of India’s descent into a rogue state, as Ottawa’s findings highlight Amit Shah’s role in the campaign of violence and intimidation targeting Sikh Khalistan leaders. The U.S. has also voiced concerns regarding these actions, which threaten the lives of anti-India and pro-Khalistan activists worldwide, reportedly stemming from directives by the Indian government and its intelligence agency, RAW.

Critics argue that Modi’s government is adopting tactics reminiscent of Israel’s approach to silencing dissent globally, raising alarms over violations of international law through the targeting of dissidents overseas. Observers caution that such actions not only endanger regional stability but also pose a broader threat to global peace and security.

Calls for accountability are intensifying, with advocates urging the international community to hold the Modi regime responsible for its alleged assassinations on foreign soil. It is crucial, they argue, for the world to recognize the RSS-backed Modi government as a significant threat to global harmony and to confront its fascist agenda before it jeopardizes more lives worldwide.
