Experts condemn India’s treatment of Kashmiri political detainees

Srinagar: Political analysts and human rights experts have raised serious concerns over the prolonged detention and treatment of Kashmiri political detainees by Indian authorities, labeling it a systematic effort to suppress political beliefs and aspirations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, experts state that Kashmiri detainees endure inhumane conditions, including isolation in overcrowded cells, denial of necessary medical care, and continuous confinement without due process. Families of detained Kashmiris remain in perpetual distress, fearing for the safety and well-being of their loved ones. Analysts argue that these detentions are aimed at weakening the resolve of Kashmiris in their decades-long struggle for self-determination.

“India’s actions are not just violations of human rights but also a blatant breach of the Geneva Convention regarding the treatment of prisoners,” said one political analyst. The Modi administration has used draconian laws to extend detentions unlawfully, ignoring court orders to release detainees. Experts assert that these arrests and extended detentions are tools of intimidation to silence Kashmiri voices.

Global human rights organizations have been asked to urgently address these ongoing violations in IIOJK. Political analysts warn that India’s oppressive tactics will not deter the Kashmiri people from their rightful pursuit of freedom, urging the international community to stand in solidarity with the detainees and their families.

It is worth mentioning here that thousands of Kashmiris including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Aasiya Andrabi, Ayaz Akbar, Merajuddin Kalwal, Peer Saifullah, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Fehmeeda Sofi, Naheeda Nasreen, Shahid-ul-Islam, Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani, Bilal Siddiqi, Dr Hameed Fayaz, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Abdul Ahad Parra, Ameer Hamza, Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, Advocate Nazir Ahmed Roonga, Advocate Muhammad Ashraf Butt, Advocate Muzaffar Qayoom, Adv Zahid Ali, Khurram Parvez are currently languishing in Indian jails.
