Srinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has attached at least 193 properties of the oppressed people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir since 2023 till date in the territory.
Te Indian government has attached the properties to punish the Kashmiris for their affiliation with the ongoing freedom movement.
So far, over 193 properties, including lands, houses, shops and offices, of the Kashmiri people have been seized by the BJP regime and its agencies, including National Investigation Agency (NIA), Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Special Investigation Agency (SIA) along with Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force.
With New Delhi’s ongoing policy to deprive Kashmiris of their rightful properties, Indian authorities have attached the properties of innocent people of IIOJK to punish them for their affiliation with the freedom movement. The BJP establishment headed by its LG has confiscated the immovable properties of the activists in false cases registered against them.
This practice of confiscating Kashmiris’ properties under draconian laws has escalated since the revocation of IIOJK’s special status in August 2019. Critics argue that such actions are part of a broader strategy to alter the territory’s demographic makeup by displacing local Kashmiris and allocating their land to non-local settlers and weakening Kashmiris economy.
The Srinagar-based political experts and analysts have said that the Narendra Modi-led Indian government was expanding its settler colonial project in occupied Jammu and Kashmir by grabbing Kashmiris’ land and properties.
The political experts and analysts in their statements and interviews said Modi’s Hindutva regime is attaching the properties of Kashmiris to break their resolve for freedom. They said attaching or confiscating the properties, on one pretext or another, has become a new normal in occupied Kashmir.
They pointed out that, so far, properties worth crores of rupees belonging to the Kashmiri pro-freedom leaders, activists and organizations had been seized by the Indian authorities. They said the BJP regime has identified scores of more such properties to be attached in territory.
The political experts and analysts deplored that Indian troops were regularly destroying Kashmiris’ houses during violent military operations. The Modi regime is hell bent on snatching the shelter and livelihood of the Kashmiri people, they lamented.
They maintained that Modi must remember that the freedom sentiment of the Kashmiri people could not be subdued by such tactics. The international community must wake up and take cognizance of India’s brutal actions in IIOJK, they added.
The Indian authorities have already confiscated the headquarters of All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Srinagar and hundreds of houses and properties belonging to Hurriyat leaders and organizations, including Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Aasiya Andrabi and Jamaat-e-Islami across occupied Kashmir. The occupation authorities have also demolished many residential houses, shops, shopping complexes and other properties in the occupied territory.
The attaching or confiscating Kashmiris’ properties every other day by India is a new normal in occupied Kashmir. The action is aimed at forcing the Kashmiris to give up their support to the ongoing freedom struggle.
Attaching properties of Kashmiris is a sheer political vendetta on part of Hindutva BJP Indian government and is a part of India’s systematic campaign to cripple the Kashmiris economically.
The BJP Indian government must remember that India’s brutal military occupation and colonial tactics have failed to subdue the Kashmiris’ resolve for freedom in the past and will meet the same fate in future as well, therefore, India should stop its state terrorism and fulfill its promise of giving the Kashmiris their birthright to self-determination.
