Hindutva aligned man hurls raw pork into mosque premises in BJP-ruled Assam

Guwahati: Communal tension gripped Guwahati, the capital of BJP-ruled Assam, after a Hnidutva-affiliated person desecrated a mosque by throwing raw pork into its premises, a provocative act seen as part of growing pattern of anti-Muslim acts in Modi’s India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the shocking incident occurred in the Panjabari area, where a polythene-wrapped packet containing raw pork was discovered by the mosque’s imam when he arrived there for the Fajr prayer. The mosque is situated on Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Path in Puran Basti.

CCTV footage showed a man in a blue shirt and wearing a helmet arriving on a two-wheeler and throwing the packet into the mosque compound. Soon after, he was seen fleeing the scene. The packet also contained a paper with a mobile number scribbled on it.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among Muslim residents and community leaders, who have called it a hate-driven act designed to insult Islamic beliefs and provoke tensions. This is seen as a continuation of the rising tide of Islamophobic attacks under the patronage of Hindutva elements, particularly in BJP-ruled states.

Community leaders have called for swift and stern action against the perpetrator and demanded enhanced security measures at religious sites to prevent such incidents in the future.

Police have classified the case as “highly sensitive” and claimed that investigations are underway. While authorities say efforts are being made to prevent communal escalation, the Muslim community remains deeply concerned, pointing to a broader environment of hate that continues to go unchecked.
