Speakers pay tributes to Sardar Abdul Qayyum on 10th death anniversary at APHC-AJK event

Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan, on his 10th death anniversary, remembering him as a towering political figure and an unwavering advocate of Kashmir’s freedom movement.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC-AJK chapter held a commemorative event at its office in Islamabad today, which was attended by senior political and Hurriyat leaders, intellectuals, and civil society members.

The speakers included senior leader of PML(N) Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Abdullah Gul, APHC-AJK senior leader Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Shameem Shawl, Director of the Kashmir Liberation Cell Raja Afsar Khan, and Muslim Conference leaders Sardar Abid and Asim Abbasi.

Recalling Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan’s distinguished political and social contributions, the speakers hailed him as a multifaceted statesman whose legacy continues to inspire generations of Kashmiris. They said his unyielding commitment to the Kashmir cause, democratic ideals, and public welfare earned him deep respect across party lines.

Apart from his peerless contribution in strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in the region, his role in promoting culture of tolerance and fair play in politics serves as a guiding principle towards a vibrant, more thoughtful and pluralistic society, the speakers said.

They described him as a visionary and principled leader, whose wisdom and foresight transcended the challenges of his time. “He was a thinker, a dynamic and visionary politician blessed with vision that transcends the present state of affairs”.

Despite the passage of a decade since his demise, the speakers said Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan’s absence continues to be deeply felt, particularly in political and diplomatic circles.
