Badgam village remains digitally isolated despite Modi govt’s development claims in IOJK

Srinagar: Despite the BJP-led Indian government’s repeated claims of development and digital transformation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) since abrogation of special status in August 2019, residents of Samsan village in Budgam district remain completely disconnected in the digital age due to the absence of mobile network connectivity.
According to Kashmir Media Service, locals of Samsan, located in Khansahib tehsil, told media men that not a single mobile tower has been installed in their area, leaving the entire village in a communication blackout. “We are completely cut off, no calls, no internet, nothing,” said one resident, adding that the lack of connectivity severely impacts students, professionals, and families during medical emergencies.
“Even in times of emergencies or government announcements, we are the last to know. Our children can’t attend online classes or access learning material,” another resident said.
Students in the area say they are being left behind in the age of digital education. “We can’t download assignments, attend virtual classes or even use basic study apps. We are losing out academically just because of no connectivity,” said a Class 12 student.
Villagers said they often walk long distances or climb higher ground just to catch a weak signal for a call or message. They lamented that despite repeatedly urging the IOJK administration to address the issue by installing a mobile tower and bridging the growing digital gap, no action has been taken on the ground.
