Young Muslim brutally assaulted by Hindutva mob in UP
New Delhi: A young Muslim man, Maqsood Alam, was brutally beaten by a violent mob in the middle of a road in Balipur, Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, after being falsely accused of meeting a Hindu girl.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Maqsood Alam, 25, a resident of Gopalpur village in Dilippur area, had gone to a local hotel where the girl, whom he had previously met at a Jan Seva Kendra, was staying. The mob, fuelled by communal hatred, accused him of being in an interfaith relationship and attempted to lynch him on the spot.
Eyewitnesses reported that Maqsood was mercilessly beaten with sticks, punched, and kicked in full public view as vehicles passed by and onlookers recorded the horrific act on their phones instead of helping. “He was crying for help, but no one came forward. They shouted religious slurs and called him a terrorist,” said a local shopkeeper.
The attack highlights the growing climate of Islamophobia and mob violence in India, where Muslim men are increasingly targeted on fabricated charges related to interfaith interactions—a trend many believe is encouraged by hardline Hindutva groups. Maqsood was later shifted to the district hospital in a critical condition.
