Congress slams Amit Shah, seeks details on jet losses during Operation Sindoor
New Delhi: The Congress has lashed out at Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding accountability for the lapses that led to the Pahalgam incident and calling on the government to disclose how many Indian jets were downed during Operation Sindoor.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, made these remarks while participating in a special debate on the Pahalgam incident and Operation Sindoor. He also criticized the government over former US President Donald Trump’s repeated claim—made “26 times”—that he used trade pressure to broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. “Before whom did Prime Minister Narendra Modi surrender?” Gogoi questioned.
“They are still saying that Operation Sindoor is incomplete and that Pakistan could do this again—then how is it a success?” Gogoi asked. “They themselves are saying the intention was not war—why was it not so? They say it wasn’t meant to capture territory—why was it not so?” he continued.
Referring to Trump’s claim that “five to six jets” were shot down, Gogoi said, “One jet is worth crores of rupees. That is why we want the Defence Minister to come clean. The country has the courage to hear the truth. He must answer: how many fighter jets were downed?”
“This information, this truth, is not only for Indian citizens. It is vital for our soldiers as well. They are also being misled,” he asserted.
Gogoi pointed out that India has only 35 Rafale jets, and if some have been lost, it is a major blow.
“Who will take responsibility, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir? It is the Home Minister who must be held accountable. You cannot hide behind the LG,” Gogoi declared. “This government is so cowardly and weak that it even blamed tour operators for the Pahalgam attack.”
