Kashmir issue now global focus due to Kashmiri people’s sacrifices: Nazir Ahmed Qureshi

Islamabad: Patron-in-Chief of Kashmir Campaign Global and Chairman of Kashmir Muslims Relief Organization, Nazir Ahmed Qureshi, has said that the Kashmir issue has now become the focus of global attention due to the immense and enduring sacrifices of the Kashmiri people.

Nazir Qureshi in an interview with Kashmir Media Service stated that the Indian false flag operation in Pahalgam on April 22, Indian aggression on May 6 and 7, and Pakistan’s subsequent retaliatory actions, which resulted in the destruction of Indian fighter jets and defense installations, have proven that the Kashmir dispute is the gravest challenge to peace and stability in South Asia.

He emphasized that the need for a just resolution of the Kashmir issue is being recognized globally. Qureshi noted that three wars have already been fought over Kashmir, while the escalation in May this year marked one of the most dangerous standoffs in history, nearly pushing the region to the brink of nuclear war. It was former US President Donald Trump, he said, who claimed to have intervened for the 27th time to de-escalate tensions and broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, a move that undermined the narrative of the Modi government and left Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi globally embarrassed.

Nazir Ahmed Qureshi further stated that Pakistan’s growing role in the Muslim world has elevated it to the status of an emerging global leadership power. Referring to India’s unilateral move on August 5, 2019, to revoke the special status of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the Modi government tried to push Kashmiris to the wall. However, despite all the oppression, the people of Kashmir neither bowed nor abandoned their freedom movement.

He pointed out that even pro-India politicians in the region, including Farooq Abdullah, now admit that India has failed to suppress the Kashmiri freedom struggle.

Qureshi stressed the urgent need for unity and cohesion among the Kashmiri people to take the freedom movement to its logical conclusion. He asserted that only a strong Pakistan can guarantee the success of the Kashmir freedom struggle, as it is both the genuine representative of the Kashmiri people and a key party to the dispute.
