Locals block road in Reasi against authorities’ indifference to flood-hit victims

Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, residents of Arnas tehsil in Reasi district staged a protest demonstration, blocking the main road to denounce the administration’s indifference to their sufferings in the wake of heavy rains and flooding.
According to Kashmir Media Service, villagers from Kouri, Judda, Khani Kot and Sawla Kot blocked the main road for several hours, denouncing the authorities’ apathy. They said the area has been reeling under darkness for the past fifteen days due to a prolonged power outage, which has paralyzed normal life.
The protesters also condemned the absence of stoppage of local trains at Kouri Railway Station, which they said has caused immense hardships to thousands of daily commuters.
The villagers submitted a memorandum to the Tehsildar listing urgent demands, including provision of tents, blankets and relief material to those whose houses were damaged, free ration for one year as maize crops have been destroyed, waiver of KCC loans for affected farmers, removal of landslides blocking roads, restoration of water supply schemes and financial assistance for the protection of damaged houses and agricultural land.
They warned that if the authorities fail to address their demands within three days, the agitation will be intensified and the administration will be held responsible for consequences.
