Jharkhand Muslim minister gets life threats after exposing BJP’s divisive politics
Ansari says BJP trying to silence Muslim leaders through fear and intimidation
Ranchi: In India, Jharkhand Health Minister and senior Congress leader Dr Irfan Ansari has said that he received a death threat following his strong criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), exposing once again the atmosphere of fear and intimidation created by the saffron party against its political opponents, particularly Muslim leaders.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr Ansari told reporters that he received the threat call from Uttar Pradesh. The caller warned him, “You act like a big leader, I am coming, I will blow you up.” The minister said he immediately informed police, and his security has since been stepped up.
Blaming the BJP for the attempt to silence his voice, Dr Ansari said, “The BJP has made my life miserable. They are trying to frighten me so that I stop speaking the truth. But I will not bow down.”
He added that BJP leaders routinely target him with communal taunts, even saying he should be “sent to Bangladesh.”
The minister came under attack from BJP after a video surfaced in which he was heard saying he would “dig the graves of BJP leaders.” He clarified that the remark was twisted by the ruling party to divert attention from real issues such as health, education and development.
“Instead of working for the people, BJP thrives on spreading hate and trying to divide society,” Ansari said. “They want to erase the identity of Muslims in India, but we are sons of this soil and will not be silenced.”
Congress leaders and supporters condemned the threat call, accusing the BJP of targeting Muslim politicians to weaken their political influence. One of Ansari’s supporters said outside his residence, “This threat is just another attempt to silence him, but our leader will not bow down.”
Police have confirmed the call originated from Uttar Pradesh and said investigations are underway.
