BJP linked to “terrorists”, claims of normalcy in IIOJK hogwash: AAP leader Sanjay Singh

New Delhi: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has links with “terrorists” and called its claims of normalcy in Indian illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) pure propaganda.

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Singh revealed that dozens of terrorists have been made BJP office-bearers in IIOJK. He also said that BJP’s claim of normalcy in the occupied territory was nothing but hogwash. His press conference followed his return from Srinagar where he was put under house arrest by police acting on directives of New Delhi-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday.

Singh condemned the detention of AAP’s lone MLA in IIOJK, Meraj Malik, under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA), calling it a historic abuse. “Meraj Malik is the first MLA in J&K to be booked under PSA. The administration has used old FIRs, dating back 10–11 years, to target him. As many as 18 FIRs from 2014, 2016, 2021, 2023, and 2024 have been used to justify this black law,” he said.

Singh talked about his own house arrest, which prevented him from holding a demonstration or press conference in Srinagar. “Prime Minister Modi claims Jammu & Kashmir is peaceful, yet a Member of Parliament is barred from stepping outside a guest house and no reason is given for this. Even Farooq Abdullah, who has served several times as chief minister of J&K and also as an Indian minister, was denied entry to meet me. This happened, even though his (Farooq Abdullah’s) party currently runs the government in J&K and his son is the chief minister there. BJP’s police administration has turned J&K into a joke,” he said.

Calling the BJP a party of double standards, Singh vowed to fight for Meraj Malik’s release—from the streets to Parliament and the Supreme Court.
