Kashmiri leaders pay rich tributes to Prof. Butt

Political leaders across occupied Jammu and Kashmir have expressed deep grief over the demise of veteran Hurriyat leader and academician Prof. Abdul Ghani Butt, who passed away on Wednesday evening at his residence in Botingoo, Sopore, at the age of 90.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described Prof. Butt as “a very civil person”. “May he find place in Jannat,” Omar wrote on X.

Peoples Democratic President Mehbooba Mufti noting his role as a scholar and advocate of peaceful resolution said his legacy of reconciliation would continue to inspire future generations.

Hakeem Yaseen termed Prof. Butt “a towering personality” whose contributions to politics and academia would always be remembered.

Prof. Abdul Ghani Butt’s passing, leaders said, has created a void in Kashmir’s political and intellectual landscape that can never be filled.
