Condolence

IIOJK admin allows Mirwaiz to offer condolences in Sopore after 3 days of house arrest

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the New Delhi-imposed administration allowed senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, to visit Sopore today to offer condolences to the family of the late Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, after keeping him under house arrest in Srinagar for three consecutive days.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the IIOJK administration had placed Mirwaiz under house arrest on Wednesday to prevent him from attending Professor Butt’s funeral. Yesterday, he was again confined to his home and was not allowed to go to the Jamia Masjid for Friday prayers. In a video message released Friday evening, Mirwaiz strongly condemned the ongoing house arrest, the denial of his right to attend Friday prayers, and his exclusion from Professor Butt’s funeral. He described these actions as clear evidence of the authoritarian regime under which he and others are forced to live.

Early this morning, the occupying Indian administration lifted his house arrest and granted him permission to visit Botengoo in Sopore to extend his condolences. Mirwaiz offered his heartfelt sympathies to Professor Butt’s sons, Mudasir Ghani Butt, Jahangir Ghani Butt, Burhan Ghani Butt, and other family members, while praying for the elevation of the late professor’s soul.

Mirwaiz fondly recalled that Professor Abdul Ghani Butt was a compassionate elder, dear friend, and a guiding mentor. He emphasized that Professor Butt was not only a distinguished scholar but also a visionary politician who advocated for dialogue and moderation in the political landscape. Mirwaiz further said that the passing of Professor Butt represents an irreplaceable loss for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is important to note that Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, a renowned freedom fighter, academic, intellectual, and former Chairman of the APHC, passed away on Wednesday after a brief illness.
