Engineer Rashid observes two-day hunger strike in Tihar jail

Srinagar: Jailed Lok Sabha member from Baramulla, occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Engineer Abdul Rashid has announced to observe a two-day hunger strike in New Delhi’s Tihar jail to evoke the significance of the non-violence principle..

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a handwritten letter forwarded to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Rashid said the world today was in “desperate need” of peace. He emphasized that non-violence philosophy was more relevant now than ever, at a time when nations continue to indulge in violence while claiming to pursue peace.

Currently imprisoned in a so-called terror funding case, Rashid said his symbolic protest was meant to remind people of the universal importance of non-violence in resolving conflicts.
