PDP slams BJP for ‘embracing’ Taliban’s Afghanistan while targeting Muslims
Mehbooba says move exposes BJP’s ‘internal hypocrisy’

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the BJP-led Indian government for “embracing” Taliban-ruled Afghanistan while simultaneously targeting Muslims within India, calling it a stark reminder of the party’s “internal hypocrisy.”
According to Kashmir Media Service, her remarks came as India decided to upgrade its ties with Afghanistan amid the visit of Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to New Delhi.
“In the name of ‘Love Jihad,’ ‘Land Jihad,’ ‘Vote Jihad’ and ‘Cow Jihad,’ the BJP has repeatedly targeted its own Muslim population, propagating narratives that demonize them. At the same time, India, the so-called mother of democracy, has chosen to embrace the Taliban — the harbinger of jihad,” Mehbooba wrote in a post on X.
She pointed out that India has offered various forms of aid to Afghanistan, including educational scholarships for Afghan students, while at home the BJP has withdrawn scholarships for Muslim students and closed madrasas. “This is a stark reminder of the BJP’s internal hypocrisy,” she asserted.
The PDP chief said that while maintaining international relationships is important, a nation’s true stability depends on fostering trust, respect, and equality among its own citizens, especially minorities.
“Hope Bulldozer Baba is listening!” she added, in an apparent jibe at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
