Indian forces kill an activist in Assam

Dispur: Indian police have killed an activist in the disturbed state of Assam.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the deceased has been identified as Apil Murmu alias Rohit Murmu (40). He was reportedly associated with the National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA), a banned organization that seeks a separate state free from Indian hegemony.

Kokrajhar’s Superintendent of Police, Pusparaj Singh, dubbing Murmu as a suspected militant, claiming he was killed in the encounter during a search operation in Nadanguri hills. The operation was launched to trace militants suspected of carrying out the recent rail line blast near Kokrajhar Railway Station on October 23.

The police officer further said that at least three to four police personnel, including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), were injured during the operation.
