Cold wave tightens its grip over IIOJK as Srinagar records coldest night of season

Srinagar: The cold wave tightened its grip over occupied Jammu and Kashmir as Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season at 0.2°C, officials said.

According to Kashmir Media Service, as per the Meteorological Department data, sub-zero temperatures were recorded in several places across the valley.

Pahalgam, a well-known tourist destination in south Kashmir, froze at -3.0°C, while Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in Baramulla district, recorded a minimum temperature of -2.6°C.

In Kupwara, the mercury settled at 0.7°C.

The continuing dry weather conditions and clear night skies have contributed to the further dip in temperatures. The Met office has predicted no major precipitation for the next few days, suggesting that the night temperatures may fall further ahead of the harsh winter period Chillai Kalan, beginning on December 21.
