Kashmir Campaign Global holds Right to Self-Determination Day event in Peterborough

Peterborough: An event to mark Right to Self-Determination Day was organized by Kashmir Campaign Global at the Peterborough Council on Sunday, drawing wide participation from political representatives, community leaders, and human rights activists.

The gathering was attended by former Member of Parliament and current Mayor of Cambridge Paul Bristow, Councillor Ashfaq Ahmed, Councillor Amjad Iqbal, Councillor Aurangzeb, Councillor Qaiser, Councillor Imtiaz Ali, former Councillor Ansar, the Chairman of Palestine Solidarity, Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Raja Naveed Arif, Advocate Amjad Farooq, District Councillor Ghafar Shahid, PML-N central leader Raja Javed Iqbal, Chairman Kashmir Campaign Global Zafar Qureshi, and Secretary General Ashfaq Ahmed, among others.

Speaking at the outset, Raja Ejaz Shahique, Chairman of Kashmir Campaign Global Peterborough, thanked the participants and said that January 5 serves as a reminder of the promise made by the international community to the people of Kashmir, granting them the right to decide their future. He regretted that this commitment remains unfulfilled even today.

Dr. Ashfaq, Deputy Secretary of Kashmir Campaign Global, delivered a detailed briefing on the historical background of the Kashmir dispute, the prevailing situation in the region, and the responsibilities of the international community. He stressed that the time had come to move beyond statements and adopt practical and effective measures.

Chairman Zafar Qureshi presented a comprehensive address and presentation on the significance of Right to Self-Determination Day. He described Kashmir Campaign Global as a non-partisan platform open to individuals of all political affiliations working collectively for the Kashmir cause. He expressed confidence that despite continued repression, the struggle of the Kashmiri people would ultimately succeed.

Former MP Paul Bristow said that anyone with a conscience and commitment to human rights cannot remain silent on the Kashmir issue. Councilor Amjad Iqbal stated that Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute and emphasized that serious and meaningful efforts are now required to achieve a just and lasting resolution.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which participants shared their views and concerns. The gathering ended with a collective prayer, reaffirming solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and their right to self-determination.
