Modi govt imposing Hindutva agenda, Muslims branded “Bangladeshis”: Owaisi

Aurangabad (Maharashtra): Member of Indian parliament and President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi, has said that the Modi-led Indian government is attempting to impose the Hindutva agenda across the country, while branding Muslims as “Bangladeshis” solely on the basis of their religion.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Owaisi, campaigning for the municipal elections in Aurangabad, strongly criticized the BJP and the Mahayuti alliance. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has empowered the Election Commission to question the citizenship of Muslims. “Simply for being Muslims, they are being asked whether they are citizens of this country,” he said.
Owaisi maintained that the BJP was practicing double standards, noting that earlier only Hindus could be members of Hindu temples and only Muslims of Muslim religious institutions. “Now, under a new law, non-Muslims are being allowed to become members of Muslim religious institutions,” he added.
Questioning the special revision of the voter lists, Owaisi said the exercise is being used as a tool to harass citizens. Calling for unity among Muslims, he said, “We cannot vote for those who snatch away our mosques and shrines.”
