IIOJK High Court quashes PSA detention, orders release of Kashmiri man
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the High Court has quashed the detention of a man held under the black law, the Public Safety Act (PSA), and ordered his immediate release.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a single bench of the High Court headed by Justice Rahul Bharti declared the continued detention of Mudassar Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Pulwama district, illegal. The court termed the prolonged detention highly distressing and contrary to constitutional safeguards, and directed the authorities to release him immediately.
Mudassar Ahmad Bhat had been taken into custody on May 1 last year under the Public Safety Act and was subsequently lodged in Udhampur District Jail in the Jammu region.
