Manipur village attacked for second time, students also fired upon

Guwahati: Armed extremists attacked a village in Ukhrul district, Manipur state of India, for the second successive day..
According to Kashmir Media Service, the extremists, allegedly Nagas, also fired upon a group of students who were returning from the adjoining Kangpokpi district after completing their Class 10 board examinations. No one was injured in the incident.
“Mongkot Chepu village was again subjected to a coordinated armed attack allegedly by Tangkhul militants, including the use of drone-delivered explosives. An innocent civilian has been injured,” the Mongkot Chepu Village Authority in a statement said.
Alleging that the militants have established bunkers around the village, the village authority asked the government to dismantle the bunkers.
The village authority also said two farmers tilling their fields sustained bullet injuries when the extremists fired at them on Monday (March 23, 2026).
“We are trying to control the situation, but the remoteness of the locations is making the task difficult,” a district official said.
Trouble also broke out in the Kuki-Zo-dominated Churachandpur district after a group of people barged into the residence of Kuki Zo Council chairman H. Thanglet on Sunday (March 22, 2026) night. Armed men present at his house fired blank shots to disperse the mob.
