Decline in IIOJK college admissions sparks concern

Srinagar: Authorities have admitted a decline in student admissions across Government Degree Colleges in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir over the past two academic years, with rising poverty and other factors being cited as possible reasons.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the disclosure came in a written reply by the Minister in-charge for Education, who attributed the decline to various factors affecting admission patterns.

“Colleges across the territory have been witnessing some decline owing to a variety of factors affecting admission patterns,” the reply stated.

The authorities acknowledged that some colleges, like GDC Baghi-e-Dilawar Khan and GDC Chattisinghpora, have no active student enrolment due to insufficient admissions.

The decline in admissions is attributed to factors like rising poverty, lack of job opportunities, and changing educational preferences.
