IIOJK lawmakers protest brutal killing of Kashmiri youth by Indian troops in Ganderbal

Demand justice and dignified burial

Jammu: Lawmakers in in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) staged a strong protest in the assembly against the recent killing of an innocent Kashmiri youth, Rashid Ahmad Mughal, in a fake encounter by Indian forces in Ganderbal district. They also demanded that his body be handed over to the family for a dignified burial.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mughal was martyred on Wednesday during a cordon and search operation conducted by Indian army, paramilitary, and Special Operations Group personnel in the Arhama area of Ganderbal.

Members of the ruling National Conference (NC), its ally Congress, and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stood up in the assembly to register their protest.

NC legislator Mubarak Gul condemned the killing, calling for a clear distinction between civilians and militants. Another NC member, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi, stressed that the Constitution guarantees the right to a dignified burial and urged that the body be handed to the family so that his wife, children, and other grieving relatives could pay their last respects. NC member Mir Saifullah demanded judicial investigation into the incident.

Congress MLA Nizamuddin Butt emphasized that the grieving family should be granted the right to a proper burial. Another Congress member, Irfan Hafiz Lone, brought a poster to the assembly condemning the killing.

However, members of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remained completely silent on the brutal murder.
