Tension escalates in Manipur’s Ukhrul district

New Delhi: Fresh violence has erupted in Ukhrul district, Manipur, after National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM)
militants opened fire towards Mongkot Chephu Kuki village, prompting retaliation from Kuki village volunteers.

According to Kashmir Media Service, intermittent firing was reported from Mongkot, Thoyee, Sharkapung, and Shangkai villages, with Indian forces closely monitoring the situation. The area is gripped by fear and tension, raising concerns over civilian safety.

The incident has sparked concerns of escalating conflict in the region, with tensions running high between the Kuki and Tangkhul communities
