BSF firing injures Bangladeshi youth, tension grips border area

New Delhi: Tension prevailed along the India-Bangladesh border after personnel of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) injured a Bangladeshi youth in unprovoked firing in Patgram area of Lalmonirhat district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the injured youth, identified as Mizanur Rahman, sustained a bullet wound after BSF troops opened fire when he was near the border area. He was later shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The incident sparked anger among local residents, who gathered near the border in protest against the firing. The situation remained tense as authorities from both sides moved to defuse the situation.
Border officials from Bangladesh termed the firing on an unarmed civilian unacceptable and sought an explanation from their Indian counterparts. A flag meeting between the two sides was also arranged to address the issue.
Observers said such incidents reflect the recurring pattern of excessive use of force by Indian border forces against civilians, raising serious concerns over human rights violations along the borders.
