Kashmir dispute is a threat to South Asia’s strategic stability, says ISSI brief

Islamabad: The Jammu and Kashmir dispute is at the heart of South Asia’s unstable balance, and its resolution is crucial for regional peace, according to a new issue brief by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the brief says, “The Jammu and Kashmir dispute has been the main cause of strife between India and Pakistan for more than seventy years”, adding that the issue has brought the region to the brink of war on multiple occasions.
The brief highlights the disputed accession of the Princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 and the non-implementation of UNSC resolutions as key factors exacerbating the conflict.
