Mirwaiz says world looks to Pakistan for peace, warns against futility of war

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has lauded Pakistan for facilitating a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, saying that the world is now looking towards Islamabad to help steer the Middle East away from further conflict.

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Mirwaiz said the people of Kashmir, having endured decades of grief and suffering, fully comprehend the futility and human cost of war.

He said the global attention is now focused on Pakistan’s potential role in de-escalating tensions in the region. He said that the people in IIOJK also hoped that the talks between the US and Iran would help break the cycle of violence, bringing relief to Iran, Lebanon, and ultimately Palestine.

“In war, there are no real victors, everyone loses — in lives, in dignity, and in humanity,” Mirwaiz said, warning that prolonged conflicts leave behind destruction and wounds that persist across generations.

He stressed that lasting peace cannot be imposed through force but can only emerge through sincere and constructive deliberations grounded in justice and redressal of genuine concerns.

Referring to recent developments in Lebanon, he unequivocally condemned the recent killing of civilians in Beirut, describing the Israeli regime as a perpetrator of relentless violence and a deliberate spoiler of peace opportunities in the region. He said such actions deepen the crisis and undermine de-escalation efforts.

Mirwaiz reiterated that any lasting resolution in the region will remain elusive until the core issue — the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to their land — is addressed with justice.
