Deepening intolerance in Indian society as youth forced to consume urine in Rajasthan
New Delhi: In yet another shocking incident reflecting growing intolerance and social vigilantism in India, a 19-year-old youth was brutally assaulted, humiliated and was forced to drink urine by a group of men in Rajasthan’s Barmer district over a suspected WhatsApp interaction with a girl.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, identified as Devi Singh, was targeted after suspicions were raised regarding his communication with a girl and alleged possession of her photographs on his mobile phone.
The dispute reportedly escalated into mob violence in the Sheo area, where the youth was physically assaulted, his face blackened, and he was subjected to inhumane treatment, including being forced to consume urine and filth.
Police officials said that two accused have been detained while efforts are underway to apprehend others involved in the incident. A video of the assault, which recently surfaced, shows the victim in a degrading condition surrounded by individuals filming and participating in the abuse.
The incident has triggered outrage and raised serious concerns about the deteriorating state of social tolerance, where individuals are increasingly subjected to mob justice and public humiliation over personal matters.
