Leh councillor, ex-MLA get bail in Sept 2025 protest case

Srinagar: The High Court of Indian illeglaly occupied Jammu Kashmir has granted bail to sitting councillor Smanla Dorje Nurboo and former MLA Deldan Namgail in a case linked to the September 2025 protest in Leh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani passed the order in Bail Applications No. 316/2025 and 320/2025. Both were in custody since late September 2025 over a case registered at Police Station Leh.
The prosecution alleged Nurboo’s September 23 press conference provoked violence on September 24, when mobs attacked police, torched vehicles and government buildings, and targeted the BJP office. Four people died and dozens of Indian forces personnel were injured.
Namgail was accused of leading the mob, stone pelting, and damaging a CCTV camera. The defence called it political vendetta, saying Nurboo’s remarks aimed to highlight hunger strikers’ health and he was at a hospital during the clashes.
Namgail denied the charges. The court noted the petitioners had been in custody for seven months, the charge sheet was filed, and co-accused had been granted bail.
