Omar slams ‘gross misuse’ of PSA as HC quashes MLA’s detention

Srinagar: Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called the detention of MLA Mehraj Malik under the draconian Public Safety Act a “gross misuse” of the law and “totally unjustified.”

According to Kashmir Media Service, commenting on the quashing of his detention by the IIOJK High Court, Omar said, “He should Never have been detained under PSA, in fact he should never have been detained at all”. He added that he hoped authorities would learn a lesson from the court ruling and reflect on how such laws are being abused in the occupied territory.

The High Court quashed Malik’s PSA detention on Monday. Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani announced in open court that the preventive detention order against the MLA, who was booked under PSA in 2025, stands set aside, officials said.
