Indian paramilitary soldier commits suicide in occupied Kashmir
Srinagar : A Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier committed suicide in Kulgam district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the deceased was identified as Y Chandra Reddy, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, who was posted with F Company of CRPF’s 18th Battalion in the district.
Indain officials said Reddy used his service weapon to shoot himself and died on the spot.
The reason behind the extreme step was not immediately known. Police have initiated proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Notably, incidents of suicide and fratricide among Indian troops and paramilitary personnel have been reported frequently in IIOJK. Analysts attribute the growing psychological stress among personnel to prolonged deployment in the occupied territory, long and demanding operational duties, inadequate leave, and the pressures of serving in a conflict zone where majority of the population resent the presence of Indian forces over the decades-long occupation and widespread human rights violations.
