Protest against demolition of a Dargah in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal : The Muslim community staged a protest after the municipal administration disrespected their religious sentiments by demolishing a dargah and burning the cloth placed on it in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Muslim residents held a protest outside the municipal office in the Narmadapuram area, demanding an impartial inquiry into the demolition of the dargah and action against those responsible for hurting their religious sentiments.

Members of the Muslim community said that the religious structure was removed without the presence of their representatives. They also said that the administration burned the cloth placed on the dargah, saying the incident had deeply hurt their religious sentiments.

The community has demanded an impartial investigation into the entire matter and strict action against those found responsible.

Mohammad Junaid Taji, district secretary of the Muslim Committee, said that the dargah at Karbala Ghat was an old centre of faith where people had been offering prayers and paying their respects for generations.

He said the site also holds significance during Muharram, when a large number of devotees visit the dargah.
