Er Rashid announces barefoot march to Indian Parliament for statehood

New Delhi: Baramulla MP Er Rashid has announced a barefoot march to Indian Parliament and a day-long hunger strike on July 21 in support of the National Conference’s protest for restoration of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued from Delhi’s Tihar Jail and read out by Awami Ittehad Party chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi in Srinagar, Rashid said the move is to stress the need for a “meaningful, time-bound and result-oriented dialogue” between New Delhi and elected representatives of IIOJK.

While extending support to the NC’s July 20 protest, Rashid criticized the party for limiting its campaign to statehood and ignoring broader issues like Article 370 and Article 35A. He termed the NC’s position as “weak and diluted.”

The AIP leader reiterated that statehood should have been restored immediately after the 2024 Assembly elections.
