Don’t imperil students’ future: Jamiat chief opposes Jauhar University demolition in UP
Lucknow: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has opposed the Uttar Pradesh government’s directive to demolish 38 buildings at Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Jamiat chief Maulana Mahmood Madani said the move raises serious questions about the rule of law, natural justice, and the state’s constitutional obligations.He said the proposed demolition would jeopardize the educational future of thousands of students and lead to the loss of a major national educational asset.
Madani noted that even where building violations exist, demolition is not the only legal remedy. Authorities can opt for regularisation, revised approvals, compounding, or penalties instead. He added that BJP-led development authorities across the country have resolved similar cases through such measures. “In the case of an educational institution, justice and public interest require that all statutory alternatives be examined before demolition is considered,” he said.
Citing judicial precedents from Kanpur, Varanasi, Jhansi, and Allahabad, Madani said courts have favored regularisation and corrective measures over immediate demolition.
