Democracy has ended in India: Priyanka Gandhi

New Delhi:Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has said that democracy has effectively ceased in India, asserting that the functioning of Parliament has become completely undemocratic.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Priyanka Gandhi said that Parliament was not being allowed to discuss the issues concerning students, despite the growing nationwide protests over the NEET paper leak. She said freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest are the fundamental pillars of democracy, yet neither the Leader of the Opposition nor any other opposition member is being allowed to speak in the House.
“Whenever we rise to speak, we are stopped. The Speaker says he has to ask the government whether a debate will be allowed or not. Is this democracy?” she asked.
Priyanka Gandhi said that the Congress stands firmly with the protesting students and will continue raise its voice in support of their demands.
Criticizing the government’s economic priorities, she said that while the education budget for the country’s youth was only Rs 1.4 lakh crore, loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore of industrialists Adani and Ambani were being waived. “Farmers, the poor and students are getting nothing,” she said.
