Over 400,000 cases pending in courts across IIOJK
Srinagar: More than 400,000 cases are pending in courts across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), according to official data presented in the Indian parliament.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, the Indian Ministry of Law and Justice said that as of July 16 2026, a total of 44,595 cases were pending in the High Court of IIOJK. Of these, 33,950 cases had remained pending for more than one year, 13,514 for over five years, 6,133 for more than ten years, 395 for over twenty years, while four cases had been pending for more than thirty years.
The ministry further disclosed that 364,800 cases were pending in the district and subordinate courts across the occupied territory. Among them, 258,880 cases had remained pending for more than one year, 84,126 for over five years, 20,765 for more than ten years, 654 for over twenty years, while 45 cases had remained pending for more than thirty years.
The figures highlight the persistent backlog of cases in courts across IIOJK, with thousands of litigants waiting years, and in some instances decades, for the disposal of their cases.
