Students' recruitment protests intensify in Jharkhand over paper scandal
New Delhi: Indian authorities are facing allegations of police excesses during the recent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in New Delhi, even as student-led demonstrations continued to gather momentum in Jharkhand over irregularities in government recruitment examinations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a woman protester alleged she was abused and mistreated by police personnel during the “Sansad Chalo” march on July 20. In order to defame the student protesters, the police alleged that hundreds of social media accounts, operated from across the border, had “circulated misleading content related to the protest”.
Meanwhile, hundreds of students continued their indefinite sit-in for the fifth consecutive day in Ranchi, demanding an independent probe into irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations.
The protesters accused the authorities of failing to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process, demanded cancellation of the disputed examination and called for a CBI investigation into alleged paper leaks and corruption. They also staged a torchlight procession, warning that they would intensify their agitation if their demands remained unaddressed.
Political observers said the two developments reflect growing public discontent over police handling of peaceful protests and increasing frustration among students over alleged corruption and lack of accountability in public institutions across India.
