Srinagar: National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah has said the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) rejected the BJP-led Indian government’s August 5, 2019 actions from the very beginning, describing the day as “one of the darkest days in India’s democratic history.”
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah said the August 5 actions stripped IIOJK of its constitutional safeguards, political identity and statehood.
He said the people of the occupied territory have consistently opposed the BJP government’s unilateral actions and remained steadfast in their demand for the restoration of their constitutional rights and full statehood.
Farooq Abdullah said the NC-led government reaffirmed its position by making it its first legislative priority to pass a resolution in the IIOJK Legislative Assembly rejecting the August 5, 2019 decisions and seeking the restoration of the territory’s constitutional status and statehood. He added that his party would continue its democratic struggle for the restoration of constitutional guarantees, democratic rights and full statehood.
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP, the NC president said the saffron party continued to promote “proxy political formations” to divide the people’s mandate and weaken their collective voice.
He urged the IIOJK people to remain united in their struggle for the restoration of the rights taken away on August 5, 2019.
