India cannot silence voice of truth, justice in IIOJK through authoritarian tactics: Mirwaiz

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that India cannot suppress the voice of truth and justice in the territory through force, repression and authoritarian measures.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was placed under house arrest by the Indian authorities in Srinagar yesterday and barred from offering Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid, said in a tweet that such authoritarian measures reflect the shrinking space for Kashmiris to raise their voices on religious and other issues.

He said those who speak out against such restrictions are subjected to curbs and retaliatory measures, but arrests, detentions and restrictions cannot silence legitimate voices.

Mirwaiz said the authorities once again confined him to his residence without citing any reason, preventing him from attending Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid.

He added that his house arrest shortly after the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU) raised concerns over the online sale of pork products in IIOJK raises serious questions.
