Indian CRPF constable commits suicide at camp in violence-hit Manipur

Imphal,: An Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable has died by suicide at a camp in violence-hit Manipur state, ruled by BJP.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the constable, identified as Vineet Singh, a resident of Purvabajirao village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, was attached to F/112 Battalion and undergoing pre-induction training.

Police said Singh used his issued INSAS service rifle to shoot himself inside the CRPF camp at Motbung in Kangpokpi district. The incident occurred inside the camp premises.

The motive behind the suicide remains unknown, according to Indian police, who said an investigation into the incident is underway.

The incident comes amid continuing concerns over the mental and operational pressures faced by Indian forces’ personnel deployed in conflict- and violence-affected regions.
