PM’s image ‘destroyed’; Modi, Amit Shah cannot escape consequences of their actions: Rahul
New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the main opposition party in India, the Indian National Congress, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, lower house of Indian Parliament, has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image has been “tarnished” and he cannot escape the consequences of his actions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rahul Gandhi, in an article published in the daily “The Hindu”, harshly criticized the Modi government over police brutality on student protesters and demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah or any official involved in police action against youth cannot escape the consequences of their actions. He said that on July 20, 2026, thousands of youth across India came together to demand a fair education system and accountability for the paper leak.
The Congress leader said the protests had propelled India’s peaceful resistance, but the government tried to crush the voice of the youth with brutal use of force including tear gas, baton charge and pellet guns.
He cited the case of 19-year-old Sahil Lochab, who had hundreds of lead pellets all over his body. One bullet hit his eye, leaving him blind. Police personnel brutally beat up young women. He said that firearms, including AK-47s, were used against student protesters in Bihar, leaving many seriously injured.
Rahul Gandhi questioned the Modi government on who gave it the authority to “this illegal and unconstitutional violence”? Rahul Gandhi said the Indian Home Minister is responsible for the police action against the students and he should resign.
