New Delhi : A SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Pune was halted on the runway after the cabin air-conditioning system failed, leaving passengers in extreme heat and triggering onboard protests.
According to Kashmir Media Service, passengers alleged the cabin became unbearably hot before takeoff and that crew members misbehaved and threatened them during the protest.
Officials said the aircraft was stopped before departure after the fault was detected. Engineers later identified a technical issue in the air-conditioning system, raising questions about pre-flight safety checks. The flight was delayed while repairs were carried out.
SpiceJet has not issued a detailed statement on the allegations.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over safety in Indian aviation. On August 11, an IndiGo flight 6E-723 suffered a left engine failure and oil leak, forcing a full emergency landing in Chennai with 224 people on board. Other recent cases include an Air India pilot testing positive for marijuana, cockroaches found on flights, and audit findings of 51 safety deficiencies in Air India.
Critics say the rising number of technical faults, hygiene issues, and pilot scandals point to a broader institutional and safety crisis in the Indian aviation sector under the Modi government.
