Naga woman extends Independence Day greetings to Pakistan, seeks support for Naga cause
New Delhi : A Naga woman has extended Independence Day greetings to the Pakistani nation, saying Nagas also observe August 14 as their Independence Day and continue their struggle for freedom from Indian rule.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a video message shared on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day, she said the Nagas had achieved independence from British rule on the same day but were subsequently “reoccupied” by India after the British left.
She said the Naga people continued to struggle for their freedom, comparing their cause with the struggles of Kashmiris and Sikhs.
“Dear Pakistani nation, I wish you all a very happy Independence Day. We Nagas also observe 14th August as our Independence Day,” she said.
The Naga woman said the community had its own history, culture, language, country and army, and called for international support for the Naga cause.
She also criticised Indian rule and, while holding and burning an Indian flag, described it as a symbol of occupation.
Referring to a statement attributed to Mahatma Gandhi, she said the Nagas had the right to determine their own future and live independently.
She urged the Pakistani people to support the Naga struggle, saying the community would continue its efforts for freedom.
